E.O. Wilson, HALF EARTH: A marvelous sometimes appropriately emotional catalogue of the species and biodiversity we have and are losing if we humans continue on our mostly--so far--clueless approach to occupying the only home we have. Amazing moment when Ed touches one of the handful of white rhinos left on earth. Skip to the last third to read Wilson's recommendation, which is why we need to, and how we can, save 1/2 of what's left. In my view, biodiversity and what we have under our feet, needs to be saved and caressed before we go galumphing off to Mars. Irony: some of the great minds who want to leave earth, could be the ones to figure out how to protect what we have on Earth. Gotta look up. Gotta look down. (And underwater, too.)
